Are you interested in an internship or volunteering in an exciting new arts program? We are looking for capable and interested candidates to assist our staff with practical aspects of our activities. Descriptions of the various volunteer opportunities are listed below.

Gallery volunteers to assist with:

  • Installation of exhibits
  • Gallery monitoring and information assistance
  • Fundraising
  • Database entry and management of mailing lists
  • General information and resource guide
  • Newsletter/calendar of exhibits and events
  • Publicity and marketing
  • Special Events related to exhibitions

Public Art Volunteers:

Public Art Selection Panelist

A selection review process has been established by the Percent for Art Ordinance that requires artists and/or art professionals to sit as a voting member for the selection of a Public Art Project. The names of these artists must be approved by both Public Art Advisory Committee and the Cultural Affairs Commission. Approved panelists are contacted as needed for the selection process. The department is looking for a wide interest range of artists and art professionals who are interested and excited to be part of the selection of Public Art.

Public Art Student Intern/Volunteer to assist in:

  • Coordinating selection panels
  • Developing Request For Proposals/Qualifications (RFP/RFQ)
  • Coordinating meetings with the community and the Public Art Advisory Committee
  • Fund raising

Review Panelist

The Cultural Funding Program is seeking qualified individuals to serve on Review Panels for its competitive grant process. Funding Review Panels meet annually to review applications and recommend funding allocations for art organizations and artists requesting City support.

Funding Advisory Committee Member

The Funding Advisory Committee is a nine-member standing advisory body to the Oakland Cultural Affairs Commission.  The seven Committee members are recruited from the Bay Area arts community by staff of the Cultural Fundng Program.
